Final Reading of the Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara Claims Settlement Bill

Members of Ngāti Whatua o Kaipara were in Parliament to witness the third and final reading of the Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara Claims Settlement Bill and see it pass into legislation on Thursday, 6 June 2013.

The Bill settles the Treaty claims of Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara (Wai 312), which was first lodged in 1992 to the Waitangi Tribunal. The Bill includes the Crown’s acknowledgement that it breached the Treaty of Waitangi and it apologies for those breaches and their consequences and also provides for cultural, financial and commercial redress.
