Wai Māori iKARERE Issue 47 - WAI ORA FUND NOW OPEN
Do you have a freshwater fishery initiative that needs some assistance?
Te Wāi Maori Trust has recently opened the WAI ORA FUNDs for 2014. The fund is available to iwi and hapu for use in fishwater fisheries developments, research and education projects that ultimately advance Māori interests in freshwater fisheries.
The fund is about developing models with innovation; practical or environmental change; and/or a collaborative approach to freshwater fisheries management for whanau, hapu and iwi to replicate in other rohe.
Wai Māori hopes that this year's round of grants will build on the success of the last few years, which saw a number of unique projects go ahead. Those that received funding in 2013 were Te Arawa River Iwi Trust, Te Reo a Taiao Ngati Raukawa, Riri a Te Hori 2 Ahuwhenua Trust, Ngati Rangi Trust, Tuwharetoa Maori Trust Board, and the Ngati Koata Trust.
This year Wai Māori is seeking application for practical projects that meet the criteria of the fund.
Iwi and hapu have until 5 December 2014 to submit an application to the fund. To access the criteria, application forms and more details of the Wai Ora fund go to Te Wai Māori website www.waimaori.maori.nz or contact the Trust on phone +64 4 931 9500. Or if you want more, email Doug Jones at Te Ohu Kaimoana.
