Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whātua is looking for a suitably qualified person to manage and lead Marine and Coastal Area (MACA) claims. Someone with connections to Ngāti Whātua, Te Parawhau and other iwi within the Whangārei and northern Wairoa areas would be an advantage.
In your role you will be expected to lead, engage, and support iwi, hapū, whānau, and marae, as well as our legal and research teams, in building and executing successful MACA cases that will be heard in the High Court.
You will be responsible for ensuring iwi, hapū and marae are kept informed of developments through good communications and reporting at hui. You will also be expected to report weekly to the Manahautū and provide monthly written reports. Specific tasks to be performed during the current financial year ending June 2023 will be provided to applicants.
The job title is Marine and Coastal Areas Manager. This is a senior role. You will report directly to the Manahautū of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whātua. The role is based in Whangārei. You will be required to work 40 hours per week. Working during the weekend or evening will be required from time to time to ensure we can engage with those hapū and whānau that cannot meet during a normal working day.
The role is for a three-year period with the prospect of extending the contract.
Competencies in te reo, tikanga, policy, and writing are desirable. The position salary is between $70,000 and $100,000 per annum, depending on level of competency.
